The Pianura Padana territory comes from decades of continuous quantitative growth, which have mostly caused the loss of a sense of equilibrium in shaping sustainable choices. We have generated wealth and new poverty at once, transforming the landscape disproportionately with respect to our actual needs, emphasizing the value of land (real estate) rather than its productivity in terms of agriculture/food provision and possibility of enhancing the landscape.
The advancement reached today highlights new trajectories: Re-use and circular economy schemes, which we must rapidly engage in. Urban regeneration is part of the ongoing revolution: one which must stem from the drastic choice to limit soil consumption. There is furthermore the need to simplify and promote the renewal of existing assets, thus investing more in the re-use industry. Mostly there is the need for agriculture to gain momentum in the land planning schemes & approaches, which must take into consideration the importance of agriculture, farming, cultivated land and Food sovereignty. The definition of governance schemes and new financial tools is essential in order to sustain this change.
It is with this aim that Reggio Emilia has signed a Memorandum of Understading involving all farming associations, Regional government institutions, Training institutions, water management institutions and Slow Food.
