A lighting system able to reduce consumption and becoming a strategic infrastructure for the smart city. This is the value of Menowatt GE, company active in the green and white economy with projects and copyrights dedicated to energy efficiency. A reality that has a strong experience in public lighting projects, with realised intervention in more than 400 Municipalities, for an average reduction in the energetic consumption of about 45%, which goes over 65% with the use of LED technology.
The research developed is focusing on technologies that use the lighting point as a new hub for services of smart city and smart metering. An important case is Francavilla al Mare (Chieti) where, together with the improvement of the public lighting system, has been placed a network for service management. With the installation of lighting points endowed with radio technology (with transmission frequency of 169 MHz), it is possible to manage from remote the lighting functions, measure acoustic pollution and the presence of fine dust in the air (PM10). Once the infrastructure is in place, many services can be activated basing on the specific need of the territory, as demonstrated by another case realised by Menowatt GE. In the province of Isernia, in the Municipality of Castel del Giudice, after the switch to the LED technology for the public lighting, the incoming venues from the direct managing of the water public system have increased. The energy saving made possible the installation of smart water meters, that made it possible to measure in real time the consumptions and check the bill with an advantage for the citizens. In both cases the advantages has been reached without any increment in the expenses for the public bodies that correctly understood the opportunities offered by this new code of contracts for public-private partnernship, diverging from the now ever-standing problem of being unable to allocate expenses of money in the public sector.
Menowatt GE is one of the first ESCo (Energy Service Company) with the AEEGSI/GSE credit to be certified UNI 11352. In the board of the society, are present Legambiente, as a demonstration of the attention toward sustainability and environmental protection, and Nem Sgr Spa, another partner that demonstrate the pioneering capacity of this vision.
