The harbour authority of Taranto started a regeneration process of the harbour’s waterfront between the docks of Sant’Eligio and San Cataldo, with a project competition for the realisation of the Multifunctional Service Center.
The Multifunctional Service Center is a point of attraction open on the city and on the sea. The goal is to give a new culture of the sea back to the city of Taranto, starting from a complex system of relationships that unify the harbor, the city and the environment. With the Decree-law n.1 of the 5th of January 2015 (converted into law with the act of the 4th of March 2015, n.20), the process of regeneration of the waterfront found a new institutional and legal context.
The harbor authority of Taranto, together with the Municipality of Taranto and the superintendence office MIBAC has promoted a project of regeneration of the waterfront between the docks of San Cataldo and the Aragonese Castel.
The guide vision develops a notion of the waterfront as a complex network infrastructure, with changing dimensions and width, able to assume, by the contexts, different configurations and project dimensions: structure of protection for the water coast under the damaging effect of the waves, interaction system harbour-city, walking path on the line between harbour, city and sea, spectacular front on the mar Grande that will give back to the community of Taranto a new public space.
