We are surrounded by changement. Urban planning is not out of this. INU confirms the trust into the urban planning method, and think that it is necessary to recover the ethic basis of the choices that involve cities and territories.
Our cities, even if they are different between each other, are unified by the progressive increment of land consumption, density of degradation, low investments in infrastructures, poor accessibility for everyone to the urban system of work, the radicalization of mobility system based on private transport on wheels, the risks coming from the climate changement. But the city resists, attracts, produces; it is the most important lever for the project of the future.
However it is declined (smart, green, more inclusive, learning, social, sustainable, intelligent), the city asks for projects that try to distribute costs and social benefits, protect common goods and give better conditions for the cohabitation.
The initiatives of changement start from an image of the city that is open and friendly, inclusive and attractive, that cannot deny the collective dimension of the projects.
The distribution of the increment of value on urban land and the exchange of social capital enter in the definition of the political choices, the social solidarity and the public efficiency became indicators of the existence of new urban, institutional and administrative geographies.
Public strategies aligned on the main themes of the urban European agenda (cultural growth, technological innovation, climate adaptation and inclusion) can enhance a different involvement of economic interests.
It is more than ever important to adapt the way in which we face the govern of the territory to the deep change of perspective on which there is a general sharing of views, that give orientation and change the instrument actually available to expand towards regeneration.
About this is important to consider a new orientation of professions, education, goals and aims of urban planning practices, of the instruments for the government of cities and territories.
To the several and different cities there can be an answer from a new urbanism, adaptive and explorative, hard but rich of imagination.
