Abitacoop, cooperative society of inhabitants in the province of Modena, has more than 19000 members; the cooperative has chosen the CasaClima protocol to certify and increase the sustainability of its housing.
The study propose a relation between the concept of energy efficiency and housing comfort, starting from the case study done with the cooperative Abitacoop that has adopted the energetic certification protocol CasaClima. Analyzing the energy efficiency from that perspective, we can underline its social frame. An idea of energetic efficiency that wants to emerge needs not only a solid technical compartment but also some experiences and feedbacks from the inhabitants: a socio-cultural disposition. Energy efficiency is being re-defined with accessible and generic expressions and the comfort is the result of that re-defining process. Comfort is certainly a sensory experience but it is also a cultural phenomenon, which responds to determinate social, economic and ethics developments. A model of energy efficiency must find – also – in the different declination of comfort a leverage that can be used for social affirmation.
