In order to take full advantage of the great opportunity offered by the PNRR resources and the European recovery strategies, Bologna is betting on the development potential of its knowledge ecosystem.
The ensemble of places in the City of Knowledge is mainly divided into five districts that host activities of great scientific, technological and cultural relevance for the city and offer further development opportunities with the regeneration of disused areas.
The Integrated Urban Plan prepared by the Metropolitan City of Bologna in accordance with the provisions of PNRR M5 Inclusion and Cohesion, with an investment of more than 157 mln committed to 9 projects aimed at strengthening the ‘Metropolitan Knowledge System’; six of these concern the Municipality of Bologna and five are of pre-eminent value for the realisation of the Via della Conoscenza: Via della Conoscenza, DLF Park – Dopolavoro Ferroviario, Bolognina Regeneration, Polo della Memoria Democratica at the Station, former Ravone depot.
The decision to include these interventions in the PUI stems from the desire to implement the flagship project “City of Knowledge”, which refers to a territorial project that interprets the objectives and strategies of the General Urban Plan, generating policies and projects: in fact, the implementation of the interventions will be supported by a set of policies aimed at fostering growth and stimulating synergy and collaboration in the metropolitan research and knowledge ecosystem and at identifying strategies for the involvement and participation of citizens.
The Via della Conoscenza (Knowledge Street) is an urban regeneration project for the city’s north-west quadrant, which connects and positions in the urban space the area in which Bologna’s main research and innovation poles and areas of opportunity and transformation are concentrated, fostering synergies between areas of development and interventions to enhance the city’s scientific, industrial and cultural heritage.
