The City of Florence is promoter of the detailed plan of public initiative that concerns the large area of the former Caserma Lupi di Toscana, aimed at realizing the largest urban transformation intervention in the city since the 1960s. The long and virtuous path to reach the project has seen the realization of a large participatory (http://open.toscana.it/web/noncasemacitta2.0/home) and an international competition for ideas (https://concorsolupiditoscana.comune.fi.it/it. Based on the winning project, the Administration finally prepared and approved the plan. The development of the project is promoted through forms of partnership with private entities whose mission is consistent with the objective of creating a settlement mainly residential destination dedicated to social housing (500 dwellings), based on sustainability in its various environmental, ecological and social aspects. The main aspect of the project is the centrality and quality of public space, articulated in various forms: a large urban axis exclusively cycle-pedestrian, a key element of the overall development of the settlement, the belt green, the extended park, Urban vegetable gardens. Road and parking areas are confined to the margins and do not interfere with cycle-pedestrian system and public spaces.
