In the comprehensive project of development and exploitation of the landscape heritage of Basilicata, a primary role is related to the identification of Cultural Assets and Landscape Assets, fundamental in the drafting of the Regional Landscape Plan (PPR).
The distinctive features of urban and rural landscapes include some interesting elements, often considered as minor cultural heritage: fountains, wash houses and drinking troughs.
Since the construction of the aqueducts of Roman times, the “Fountain” was conceived as an aggregating element of the city and a coagulo of significant social activity. Over the centuries, this element has proved to be a repository of social history of communities and assumed different meanings, retaining a central role in identifying places and spaces of collective aggregation.

Through the active support of the Basilicata Research Environment Foundation (FARBAS), a census of assets has been carried out in close collaboration with the General Directorate for the Environment of the Territory and Energy of the Basilicata Region, with a photographic recording, mapping and georeferencing of fountains, sinks, drinking troughs for areas and sub-areas of landscapes as identified in the PPR.
Once the operational phase is completed, work will be done on disseminating the results through the production of an ad hoc scientific publication, in order to preserve and promote the historical memory of places and activities in the fields of material and intangible culture.
