Giovinazzo is a townlocated in the N-W of the Metropolitan city of Bari, with a population of 20.000 inhabitants. It is located 20 km from Bari, 15 Km from the airport Wojtyla of Bari Palese and it is served from the A14 highway. Its coastline stretches for 10,61 Km; moving towards the inland meet the first slopes of the Murgia. The town already existed in the fourth century B.C.. It was called “Natiolum”, a small town in the Roman era, built on the ruins of Netium peuceta, destroyed during the Punic Wars.

The town is rich in history cultural and historical heritage preserved as the Dolmen of San Silvestro, the Cathedral dedicated to “Santa Maria Assunta” (XII-XIII sec.). The economy, draws the main resources from trade and agriculture. In recent years it has undertaken the enhancement of what for many coastal town of Puglia is the greatest resource, “the sea”. It was defined “Plan of the Moorings” in order to recover the functionality of the ancient port proposing rational use of docks and piers. Think of the sea as a resource especially landscaping and tourist. This perspective contextualizes the urban redevelopment of the waterfront entitled “Italian Army”.

The project interests the redevelopment of the areas overlooking the historic walls, of great interest landascaping, financed with 7th Strategic Axis of P.O. Apulia (development District and Urban Areas) public and private sphere interesting of PIRU. The work consistes in the recovery of a walking bordering with medieval town overlooking the Adriatic Sea promenade skirting the ducal palace (built on 17th) and the “Look – out of Mediterranean Sea” where from N-W front branches off a walkway wooden that connects the walking to the medieval town. This last elevated above the sea.
