STU Reggiane SpA is a company owned by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and Iren Rinnovabili in charge of the requalification of Officine Meccaniche Reggiane area and of the building of the infrastructures of the new Park of Innovation.
The abandoned industrial area, that represents the evidence of an important chapter of the Italian industrial history, is located very close to the historical city centre, between the railway line and the airport, directly connected to A1 motorway and the new High Speed railways Mediopadana station. These are the reasons why this area is the ideal place to host the great project of developing the distinctive local proficiencies, based on the knowledge economy.
The transformation takes as its starting point the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre (research laboratory for the educational system of Reggio Emilia, opened in 2011) and the Technopole (hosted inside shed n.19 and opened in 2013) and is based on three main axis:
- the requalification of Piazzale Europa which will represent the concrete centre and the display of the Park of Innovation. The square will be a new multifunctional public space able to generate urban quality for the whole district and to connect the area with the historical centre;
- the opening of the historical branch Viale Ramazzini in order to increase the accessibility of the area and connect it to the orbital roads system.
- the requalification of sheds n.17 and 18 to make them the location of firms, research laboratories and innovation companies.
The works, financed by Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Emilia-Romagna Region and private subjects, will be completed at the end of 2017.
Ten subjects, among high innovation content companies, high education organizations and research&development, have already chosen to settle their activities inside the Park of Innovation. Here they will find customized and high-sustainability spaces, new ICT supporting the smart city approach and services capable of strengthening the partnership between enterprises and research, creating brand new value.
