The project Albergo Sociale Diffuso started with the goal of enhancing the real estate property value in possession of the Municipality of Milano, which is only partially in use because of the small dimension of the units. At the same time, the project wants to give a response to the need of temporary housing for short period for single person or small group in difficult situation. The project is the result of a collaboration between Fondazione Cariplo, the Municipality of Milano, Fondazione Housing Sociale and Abitare Sociale Metropolitano. It wants to increase the offer of temporary housing, to decrease the “improper housing” (like the one in RSA or the presence, inside housing special communities, of people with economical but not physical or social problems) that are not appropriate for the costs and the services provided. The project tries to find new ways of management and exit paths towards other more stable solutions. The economic savings generated by a more appropriate management of the situation of temporary housing can be used for an improvement in the healthcare services or for the realization or restoration of more housing units, generating a form of welfare marked by a sustainable footprint. At the moment the project is regarding 35 housing units spread into different buildings, property of the Municipality of Milano and linked to three main locations: Isola-Garibaldi-centro, Nigurda, and Quarto Oggiaro. The housing units are given to Abitare Sociale Metropolitano from the Municipality of Milano with an agreement of use. Abitare Sociale Metropolitano is assuming the responsibility of restoring the units through the necessary building interventions, also properly furnishing the apartments and managing them on the base of the agreement made
REFERENCE TARGET
The reference target for the Project, in relation with the dimension of the housing and the need of the market, have been identified in: mother with children, people that just got over 18 years old, old but autonomous people, divorced father with or without children with them, adults in state of social need and/or with family emergency situations, that do not have the possibility to find immediately an house to stay, and that are able to manage without help their own housing condition, in case with the support of social services able to help
