The city of L’Aquila represents an exemplary case of the relationship that involves the public heritage in a post-seismic context. Eight years after the seismic event that hit this part of Italy, the advancement in the reconstruction are going to give to the city a consistent real-estate capital of public property, mainly owned by the Municipality. It consists of about 4.500 housing units of the C.A.S.E. project, the so called “equivalent houses”, the housing units acquired by the Fondi immobiliari, and other hub which functions has been delocalized.
This context, in which the emergency operation of reconstruction after the seismic event of 2009 has defined a parallel settlement to the city with 25.000-30.000 inhabitants, has a remarkable heritage that is modifying in a profound way the real-estate market, and occupies a fundamental role for the strategies of urban and social-economic development. This is one of the major challenges for the future of L’Aquila and the project of its urban and territorial shell.
