Every intervention in the natural environment must grant the protection and enhancement of the context, even in cases where the context is already compromised.
In the productive area of Molfetta, subject to heavy floods, the necessity to ensure the safety of the territory becomes a chance to defend the ecology and the environment. It has been decided to regenerate an existing strip, avoiding new idraulic intervention, employing techniques of naturalistic engineering, realizing an integrated intervention to reduce the risk and regenerate the ecology of the environment. The reshaping of the riverbed in the strip recreated a typical natural morphology; new species of plants has been planted along the edges of the river, in order to solve the hydraulic necessity of the area and generating conditions able to host nature. A new ecologic aisle that connect the sea and the mountains, a linear park that develops biodiversity in areas characterized by industries and the presence of intensive olive tree agriculture. The bike and pedestrian path on the margin permit the safe use of the new park from the ASI area to the sea.
In Melendugno (Le) the fitodepuration plant of the consortium’s purifier of Melendugno, Calimera and Martignano permitted to bring together depuration and disposal of water, also with environmental regeneration, through an artificial wet area. The structure extends for a surface of about 8,3 Ha with ponds created to grant the natural flow of waters through the vegetation of the marsh; during this itinerary the water is purified from pollutign elements. This “rediscovered nature” supports the life of many animals and plants, enhancing the enviornmental value of the habitat. The fitodepuration systems with “microfite” employ higher plants, organized in tissues and specialized devices (trunk, roots and leaves), to obtain the treatment and purification of the waste water.
