The intervention is part of a wider strategy focused on the role of the Lama Picone as green infrastructure, identified as the best possible instrument to improve the landscape and environmental presence for the city through a series of intervention of re-naturalization and redesign of the urban borders.
The Lama is a great chance to realize material and immaterial actions to reach ecological, spatial and social connections between the different parts of the urban environment and the surrounding countryside. The intervention in the area Carbonara – Ceglie touches the S. Rita district and, along the East creek, reinforce the ecological system of the diverting canal, connecting it with the natural riverbed, becoming a connection with the Poggiofranco district and recovering the hydraulic function of the Lama. Along the path are located abandoned areas and spaces of urbanized countryside, which will be given back to public use with innovative management models, involving associations and citizens. The multi-functional identity of the Lama is enhanced because of the creation of paths and trails, which serve the locations of historic and cultural interest located along the way.
