The economic recovery of these early months of 2021, also supported by tax incentives, has clearly highlighted the great opportunities that wood buildings offer in terms of energy saving and seismic safety on the one hand and, on the other, the great flexibility of solutions even for emergency housing situations.
Universities have been exploring this last field of intervention for some time and recently Iuav and the University of Padua have activated the project HELP (“High efficiency Emergency Living Prototypes”) which aims to design and build an adaptive housing unit. The module uses wood as the main construction material and is the result of an integrated design of architectural aspects, plant, energy and construction system with ad hoc solutions required by emergency contexts.
But due to these researches and to the continuous expansion of the demand for construction wood, we are also witnessing the rarefaction of production and a vertiginous increase in the prices of finished products for construction. This happens in the absence of an Italian wood chain that can react with production capacity and qualified materials to the growing demand.
It is starting from the ongoing experiences in the Veneto region and the situation of the wood market that the Conference aims to face the theme of wood for construction as a “precious” material both in terms of environmental compatibility and from the point of view of its cost and its effective availability.
