Giovinazzo is a little town in N-W of the metropolitan city of Bari with a population of about 20.000 inhabitants. It is located 20 km from Bari and its coastline stretches for 10.61 km.
The Municipal Administration of Giovinazzo continues in the urban regeneration policy undertaken as a methodology to redevelop the territory of Giovinazzo and give a complete sense to the future urbanism of the city, especially as a set of measures to rebuild the lives of citizens. The municipal administration, in the past years, had developed the Urban Regeneration Programming Document that the VICHIM srl company used to develop an intervention that in fact defined the activation of the public-private partnership between the Municipal Administration of Giovinazzo and VICHIM srl with the following objectives: elimination of the landscape detractor constituted by the industrial complex “ex lime factory of the South”, now degraded; reclamation of the site; definition of a series of low environmental impact interventions to allow a quality tourist offer connected with the resources of the Giovinazzo area, contextualization of the intervention in the area to allow public use of the bathing coast. This last aspect is the connecting element of the public-private partnership which is realized with the mending of parts of the territory – which are made available for collective use – with the consolidated city.
