The Innovation Center was born from the recovery of the ancient Granary of Abundance, built in 1695 by the architect Giovan Battista Foggini for the Grand Duke Cosimo III dei Medici, which was used to store grain for periods of famine. The Medici coat of arms is still visible on the façade of Piazza del Cestello. The building was for some decades owned by the Italian Army, known as “Caserma Cavalli”, where for a long time the Florentines went for the military visit. Of the history of this evocative place remain some remains of the ancient granary of the Medici, in particular 21 large silos where the grain was stored, today united thanks to the openings that have transformed them into a place of memory.

The core of the development of the innovation ecosystem is the presence of numerous digital startups, young and dynamic companies that at the Innovation Center are based thanks to the modern co-working space managed by the startup studio Nana Bianca. Here important acceleration projects take place that see Fondazione CR Firenze actively collaborating with Nana Bianca, the University of Florence and other national institutions. Among the initiatives are: HUBBLE, a program that selects digital startups that receive a grant and an accompanying path, and ITALIAN LIFESTYLE, an open innovation program in which start-ups belonging to the leading sectors of our country, tourism, fashion and food, build innovation paths with large companies.
