After a decade of blocking activities in the urban planning – construction field, a new phase of relaunching public action has reopened in Rome in recent years, not only thanks to the substantial contribution of resources from the ERDF, PNRR and Jubilee 2025 funds, but also thanks to the rediscovery of the forecasts and scenarios introduced by current planning and never tested (Regional landscape plan approved in 2021, Metropolitan City Plan, Rome PRG 2008).

In a virtuous process of institutional collaboration, the municipal and metropolitan administrations of Roma Capitale have been able to seize the opportunities offered by planning to direct policies and to commit ordinary and extraordinary funds, focusing on the strategic dimension for the development of the territory, as indicated by the PRG 2008, on the strengthening of local identities through the qualification of public spaces and on a new approach to the issue of living, three central themes in updating urban culture and discipline.

Although not exhaustive to illustrate the broad panorama of actions deployed, ranging from the resumption of planning of peripheral areas to the rethinking of the Ostia coast, the three themes identified offer the possibility of discussing some of the main programmes being implemented and the works being implemented which are transforming the layout and image of the city.

Focus Rome therefore intends to expand, on a national scale, the dissemination of Roman experiences through the narration of politicians, administrators and planners, focusing attention on the strategic planning of the Metropolitan City and the Strategic Plans of Rome Capital, which direct urban policies around the natural and historical values of the Tiber and the Monumental Archaeological Center, on the experiences spread in the metropolitan territory, aimed at the rediscovery of public spaces for relationships and the strengthening of civic poles and the reinforcement of proximity services, and on the energy and social recovery of the public districts of Tor Bella Monaca, Porto Fluviale and Corviale, a first act to address the problem of the housing emergency.
