For the third consecutive year, Urbanpromo insists on a theme imbued with ethical values and aspiration to legality, such as that of the social use of assets confiscated from mafias, which also has important social, environmental and urban planning values that deserve to be highlighted.

The conference is opened by a general framework of the theme from a regulatory, dimensional, localization, typological and institutional point of view. Almost thirty years after Law No. 109/96 which regulated the social reuse of confiscated property, the numbers continue to document a largely unfulfilled opportunity and prompt reflection on the need to reconfigure the procedural system.

However, at the same time, there are numerous experiences that allow us to glimpse the extraordinary opportunities connected to the social reuse of these goods. In this edition of Urbanpromo it was decided to make known some experiences that have the peculiarity of interacting with two of its main themes: housing policies and sustainable and value tourism.

The experiences presented document the synergies that can be established between territorial bodies and third sector organizations – including in particular the Foundations of banking origin and the world of associations among which Libera stands out -, the connections of the commitment to legality with the redevelopment of urban and territorial areas, the new forms of production of social services for the community. But also the institutional, administrative, financial and technical difficulties that must be overcome to complete them. The result is a strong stimulus to learn more about the world of confiscated assets, the Third Sector organizations committed to achieving their social reuse, the innovative social uses that can be achieved, the abandoned environmental and architectural resources that can be reactivated and valorised for the benefit of their territories and communities.
