For the near future, climate change will have increasingly negative spatial effects, contributing to the deterioration of the condition and functionality of human and natural systems. There is an urgent need for a change in spatial planning approaches in order to build a true national transition based on climate resilience and climate neutrality approaches.
However, due to a lack of specific design skills, technical knowledge and human resources, many territories find it difficult to build local processes that can really contribute to climate transition.
In order to solve these issues, the role of private organizations supporting the activities of municipalities has become fundamental over the years. In Italy, in particular, this support is mainly linked to the contribution of territorial foundations, which, especially in recent years, have oriented their interest towards environmental issues.
This session will explore how it is possible to overcome the above-mentioned gaps through concrete examples given by the main territorial foundations in the Po valley area. In fact, there are increasing examples of these institutions that, in support of local authorities, finance actions and processes capable of directly influencing all public and private decision-making processes in order to implement sustainable development and climate transition policies.
