INU - URBIT

Carolina Giaimo, Editor-in-Chief of Urbanistica Informazioni

The 2026 UP Letture series concludes with the keyword-concept PERIPHERIES, offering an opportunity to reflect on contemporary forms of urban regeneration and on the relationship between design, public policies and urban planning.

The event opens with the presentation of the book:

Laboratorio Fontivegge. Il disegno per la rigenerazione urbana nell’area della Stazione di Perugia
by Fabio Bianconi, Marco Filippucci and Chiara Mommi
Morlacchi Editore, 2025.

The book brings together the findings of an extensive research process carried out by the University of Perugia in collaboration with the Municipality of Perugia in the Fontivegge-Bellocchio area. Its distinctive disciplinary approach considers drawing and the sciences of representation as tools for understanding, interpreting and designing the city, integrating them with contributions addressing social and economic dimensions, accessibility, wayfinding, environmental quality and public participation.

The Fontivegge case study thus provides an opportunity to discuss a central issue in urban planning: how can a variety of interventions – concerning the intermodal transport hub, public and green spaces, public buildings, mobility, accessibility and social initiatives – be brought together within an overarching vision of urban transformation? The book illustrates how the Suburbs Plan, the Urban Agenda, studies, masterplans and projects have all contributed to the development of an integrated regeneration strategy.

The discussion will therefore provide an opportunity to explore the relationship between design and planning, between individual interventions and urban strategy, and between extraordinary funding programmes and the everyday governance of the city. When does a regeneration project become a project for the city as a whole?
