This year, the Italian government launched the National Housing Plan, which aims to bring at least 100,000 homes onto the market for lower-income and more vulnerable households over a ten-year period. The plan envisages the renovation and recovery of at least 60,000 public housing units, alongside the construction of 40,000 new homes, representing a total investment of €10 billion over ten years.
The proposal also provides for the involvement of private-sector actors in the delivery of these new homes, stipulating that at least 70% of new proposals included in the Housing Plan must be allocated to social housing.
This is therefore an ambitious, long-term initiative that combines a promising underlying concept with a number of structural weaknesses, which will need to be carefully addressed during implementation.
Bringing together the main stakeholders involved in the government’s plan, the conference aims to examine the operational and management aspects of this new initiative, which will need to ensure an adequate response to the country’s housing needs. This discussion will take place within a broader European context, in which the European Commission and the European Parliament are also working to develop innovative public policies in the housing sector.
The program of the event is in development.
