THE SOCIAL USE OF ASSETS CONFISCATED FROM ORGANISED CRIME

The Italian National Institute of Urban Planning (INU) and its operating company URBIT, building on their longstanding partnership with Fondazione CON IL SUD, are organising the conference “The Social Use of Assets Confiscated from Organised Crime”. The event aims to keep this issue high on the agenda of the administrative and technical communities they work with, given its significant ethical and social implications, as well as its important potential for urban and territorial regeneration.

The recovery of real estate assets confiscated from organised crime, their economic and urban enhancement, and their return to the community can give rise to new forms of social use, highlighting the important social role these assets can subsequently play.

The conference programme will address three main areas:

• Practical experiences of recovery and reuse, presented by Fondazione CON IL SUD, cooperatives and other organisations involved in exemplary initiatives;
• Initiatives and programmes promoted by ANBSC (National Agency for the Administration and Destination of Assets Seized and Confiscated from Organised Crime) and by regional authorities;
• Activities carried out by Third Sector organisations and associations.
