The Capital of Culture projects to be presented will be Parma 2020- 2021; Procida 2022; Bergamo-Brescia 2023; and Pesaro 2024.

The event consists is a cultural journey involving not only the cities that are part of it, but the whole territory that surrounds them according to system logic.

The titles that led these cities to become Capitals of Culture – “Culture Beats Time for Parma”, “Culture Doesn’t Isolate for Procida”, “The Enlightened City for Bergamo Brescia”, and “The Nature of Culture for Pesaro “- constitute Manifestos for Cities where culture is understood as an engine for development, keeping both an eye on the past and to the future. There are some aspects these cities do have in common such as: the use of urban and socio-economic regeneration as a driving factor for territorial development, major attention to public spaces, enhancement of the identity of places, and experience-based tourism.

The meeting will start from a comparison between the protagonists of these four projects, giving rise to a particularly dynamic debate. Moreover, the discussion will focus on the emergency-related issues (such as the pandemic) that must be faced and on the power of culture as a driver that concretely supports territorial projects based on visions, practices, and policies aimed at actualizing the memory of places.
