It is now widely recognised that urban regeneration has become one of the key objectives of territorial governance. Its multidimensional nature encompasses social, economic and environmental aspects, as well as urban planning, technological and building-related dimensions, while its comprehensive scope extends to both public and private assets. As a result, it represents the primary objective of territorial governance in urban areas.
Precisely because of its multidimensional and comprehensive nature, urban regeneration can be pursued through a variety of approaches and instruments, depending on the types of urban decline and the context of intervention.
Through the conference “Pathways to Urban Regeneration”, Urbanpromo presents a broad range of planning and design approaches adopted in different Italian cities. The aim is to document the concrete challenges that need to be addressed, share knowledge of solutions considered capable of tackling them, and encourage national and regional legislators to adopt appropriate measures to support urban regeneration.
