The 22nd Urbanpromo edition – Projects for the Country will be held in Florence from 11 to 14 November 2025. Promoted by the National Institute of Urbanism (INU) and organised by the operating company URBIT – Urbanistica Italiana Srl, the event is based on the work of a Steering Committee that collects and coordinates proposals from various Working Groups.

The main partners of INU and URBIT for this year’s edition include Fondazione CR Firenze, Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione Sviluppo e Crescita CRT, Fondazione con il Sud, CDP Real Asset Sgr, the Region of Tuscany, the Metropolitan City of Florence, the Municipality of Florence, ANCE, Confcommercio and FS Sistemi Urbani.

The event takes place in the Innovation Centre of the Fondazione CR Firenze, a historic building built in the late 17th century by Grand Duke Cosimo III de’ Medici as the Granary of Abundance, which has been transformed into a modern centre for technological innovation. Located on the Lungarno Soderini and a few minutes from the Santa Maria Novella station, the Innovation Centre hosts conferences in the four rooms of the Congress Centre in the basement, while the ground floor hosts the 21 silos of the historic granary, exhibition spaces, foyer and hosting services.

The Urbanpromo cultural programme is structured around four consolidated macro-themes: urban regeneration (Urbanpromo Città), social housing (Urbanpromo Social Housing), ecological transition (Urbanpromo Green) and digital culture (Urbanpromo Digital). The main theme of this year’s event, “Regenerate to live and live to regenerate”, is explored through topics such as living in touristic cities, short-term rental management, social housing and student housing. Other topics include the regeneration of confiscated goods, the enhancement of social housing neighbourhoods, environmental renewal and cultural regeneration. The proceedings also focus on the impact of technology hubs in urban contexts, inclusive strategies for “urban ghettos for labourers” and the situation of interior zones subject to de-population. Space is given to environmental compensation and Nature Based Solutions. The event is also an opportunity to reflect on the need for a new national urban planning law and on the normative challenges of urban regeneration, housing and sustainable development. Finally, particular attention is given to innovation, with panels on artificial intelligence applied to urban planning and digital platforms for urban services, from mobility to digital food, and on the role of centres of excellence as catalysts for territorial and social development.

During the four days of Urbanpromo, the halls of the Congress Centre host four parallel conferences, generally structured in two sessions of approximately 90-100 minutes each, with a break. Some conferences adopt different formats and are also streamed live. All events are recorded and subsequently available for viewing. As usual, INU and URBIT request the recognition of training credits for participants from the professional associations.

As a prelude to Urbanpromo 2025, the ‘Urbanpromo Letture’ format has been revived with a series entitled ‘Agire Urbanistico. Utilità, Potenzialità, Criticità, Radici’ (Urban Action: Utility, Potential, Critical Issues, Roots), consisting of four monthly streaming events, two in June and July and two between September and October.
