The Technical – Scientific Commitee of Social Housing

The third session is divided into two modules. The first provides an overall picture of the investments being made thanks to the resources of the PNRR and the Community programming: this is the basic information that underlies the individual projects studied in Urbanpromo. The second module will compare the Italian experience to the European one. Following the participation of France and the United Kingdom as guests in previous editions of Urbanpromo, this year will feature representation from Germany. The German housing system, which focuses on rentals, examines social solutions, inclusion policies, adaptation to the transformations of urban fabrics, and the contribution made to urban regeneration.

The second module is dedicated to the focus on the housing system in Germany, the host country of the Urbanpromo 2022 edition. This year, thanks to the collaboration with the Goethe-Institut of Torino and Torino Urban Lab, two references of the city’s cultural creativity in continuous dialogue with the inhabitants, the housing scenario of the country in the heart of Europe will be explored in depth, exploring social solutions, the ability to propose inclusive solutions and the adaptation to the geographical and social transformations of recent decades. German society has much in common with Italian society. We are highly industrialised and anthropised founding countries of Europe, with an impactful topic of social mending, namely the reunification of the two Germanies and the integration of Italian regions with economic and developmental disparities. An exchange that certainly offers reflections and stimuli, also on an aspect that differentiates us: the Germans tend to rent and the Italians to own. We will see the reasons and consequences, as well as the new forms of living that intersect in urban regeneration processes.
