Over the past decades, Over the past decades, major cultural, sporting, exhibition and religious events have assumed an increasingly prominent role in urban and territorial development strategies. Events such as the Olympic Games, World Expos, European Capitals of Culture, major international sporting events, festivals and cultural events represent extraordinary opportunities for investment, territorial promotion and innovation, while also raising important questions about how to assess their economic, social, environmental, cultural and governance-related impacts.
The growing complexity of decision-making processes associated with the planning and management of major events calls for multidimensional assessment approaches, capable of integrating: quantitative and qualitative analyses; ex ante, in itinere and ex post evaluations; methodologies that can capture direct, indirect, induced and long-term impacts. In particular, there is a growing need to understand not only economic and financial returns, but also the effects in terms of urban regeneration, sustainability, social inclusion, territorial reputation, governance, and the material and immaterial legacy of major events.
In this context, the seminar curated by the Italian Society for Appraisal and Evaluation (Società Italiana di Estimo e Valutazione – SIEV) aims to foster an interdisciplinary reflection on the role of evaluation throughout the processes of conceiving, planning, delivering and monitoring major events, promoting dialogue among researchers, professionals and public decision-makers, with particular attention to the following topics:

- Methods and models for assessing major events;
- Cost-benefit analysis and economic evaluation;
- Multi-Criteria Analysis and strategic assessment;
- Urban regeneration and infrastructure transformations;
- Legacy of major events and long-term impacts;
