Major events, large-scale infrastructure projects and exceptional regeneration programmes have long served as key drivers of urban and territorial transformation. From world expositions and international sporting events to supra-regional infrastructure, from complex urban redevelopment programmes to temporary, locally driven initiatives, these experiences can mobilise investment, foster design experimentation and social innovation, and enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of places.

However, their implementation in contexts characterised by delicate environmental, social and institutional balances can generate tensions, contradictions and new asymmetries. While the exceptional nature of these interventions can accelerate development processes, it also poses complex challenges for mainstream planning, which is called upon to manage their effects over the medium and long term. Their legacies can take different, and sometimes conflicting, forms: from land consumption to the intensification of touristification and gentrification, as well as opportunities for ecological regeneration, energy transition and the revitalisation of marginal areas.

In this context, scientific research plays a central role in interpreting ongoing dynamics and developing analytical, design and evaluation tools capable of supporting public decision-making and steering it towards objectives of equity and sustainability.

The Conference aims to foster transdisciplinary dialogue by bringing together original contributions from doctoral researchers exploring these issues through different scales of investigation, theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches.
