Among the objectives of the Ancona 2025 Strategic Plan is the regeneration of Piazza d’Armi, born on a vast urban void originally dedicated to military exercises converted into the city’s most important market area, through a juxtaposition over the years of interventions and functions

In 2019, the municipality launched a design competition to transform Piazza d’Armi into a new urban centrality in the food and wine sector.

The winning project includes two buildings to house an indoor market and other commercial premises.

Complementing the built volumes, a square open to multiple uses manifests the desire to create a generous and easily accessible public space.

By participating in the ‘Italia City Branding 2020’ competition, useful resources were acquired to finance the design. In order to find resources for the realisation of the interventions, the area was included in the PINQuA call for bids of the Municipality of Ancona in 2021.
