Turin: Urban transformations
The process of urban transformation is the result of a strategic vision starting with the 1995 City Urban Plan, the construction of the new central backbone access and the projects related to the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. The urban transformation has been decisive in the process of regeneration and building of the new city identity, thanks to the opportunity given by the recovery and transformation of more than 10.000.000 sqmt of brownfields and the realization of strategic infrastructure, such as the underground railway bypass, the new high speed international train station of Porta Susa, the subway line n. 1 and seven metropolitan railway lines.

With more than 100.000 students, Torino recently has been transformed into a top level university town. The academic institutions of the city are always in the leading positions in international rankings and have an increasing capacity for attracting students, researchers and venture capital from the rest of Italy and the world. The University and the Politecnico of Torino have recently been rethinking their premises by conservation and renewal works on their historical sites and by a new big building construction programme. This represents a fundamental opportunity for the urban development and transformation. Knowledge and innovation: this is the meaning of “Torino university city”.
Turin: Capital of culture
The great cultural heritage of Torino has represented a fundamental opportunity to enlarge the vocations and the identity of the town. In the XVIIth and XVIIIth Centuries, Torino became a European capital: the streets and arcaded squares, the noble palaces, the religious buildings, the residences of Savoy court represent the features of the city.
