The “City of Knowledge” is a mandate strategy of the Municipality of Bologna financed thanks to the resources of the Integrated Urban Plans (PUI), within the PNRR and other local and European funding sources. It is a regeneration project of the north-west quadrant of Bologna and of integrated actions, which focus on science and knowledge as strategic levers to give a new direction to the set of city policies for promoting the city, attracting talent and investments of quality, development, innovation, internationalization, urban and environmental regeneration, but also to encourage new processes of social inclusion and to strengthen the democratic fabric of the city.
Among the districts that make up the City of Knowledge, the importance of the District of digital transition and new global challenges is evident, which develops along the axis of via Stalingrado, a connection between the historic city and the rural territory throughout history Bolognese urban planning. The District stands out in the urban and metropolitan scenario both in terms of territorial dimensions (169 ha) and in terms of the presence of institutional, research and financial players of national importance. The district combines high economic capabilities, broad strategic capabilities and relevant transformation projects. The proposals are divided into projects linked to mobility, new development linked to the entertainment city, the creation of new residential districts and functional mix.
Via Stalingrado, which aims to transform from a car road axis into a system of spaces with a high quality urban vocation, connects and coordinates a set of areas of strategic importance, such as the Tecnopolo, the former Sani barracks and others already strongly characterized by the presence of great actors. On one of these sectors, i.e. the exhibition centre, a driving development project is based for the entire quadrant which aims to become a hinge between the urban fabrics.
