The program Open Suburbs tries to find a solution to the historic polycentrism of the Metropolitan City of Bari, enhancing the local identities and differences. The interventions are distributed in an integrated way all around the metropolitan area, and are localized in the suburbs around the single municipalities of the “intermediate” landscape, a place of transition from the city to the countryside.
The common theme of the interventions has been the requalification and/or the reconversion of open public spaces as a structure of support for the social and economic dimension of the cities.
The process of co-planning with the Municipalities developed interventions organized in 6 different action typologies: requalification of the public spaces with a strong relation with the existing building context; creation of urban park with different functions; enhancement of the urban green areas; creation of proper sport areas; promotion of urban security; improvement of the sustainable light mobility.
