Lighting design communication

Filippo Cannata has been performing an intense activity of planning and research in the field of lighting for about 30 years. In the wake of a long and continuous collaboration with artists and great masters of design and architecture, he realized fine interventions and artistic installations in different cities among the most important of the world. His projects, characterized by a strong emotional impact, obtained many awards and certificates of merit including the Edison Award of Merit, the Dedalus Award and the Prix Lumiville assigned by the city of Lyon (France).
He participates in national and international architectural competitions and he is member of associations like PLDA, IES, AIDI.
Cannata&Partners is a research laboratory that explores topics and contents related to light, its history, its evolution through technology and design, its manifestations in nature, its use in all professional and artistic fields.
Principles such as sustainability, energy saving, reduction of light pollution are the basis of each project whose ultimate goal is always the welfare of man to be infused through the most complete and total satisfaction of the senses.

The lighting design project of the new configuration (created by the artist Mimmo Paladino) of the main square of Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo, is one of the highlights of the study Cannata & Partners Lighting Design. An example of urban lighting as key of emotional interpretation of public space. Blades of light favors the perception of slips of the pavement and the reading of the fascinating symbols engraved on stone slabs; geometric and metaphysicians games, light (truth) and shadow (mystery), communicate to the visitor all the beauty, the power, the prophecy of Leonardo’s science. The crossing of the square, more than mere spatial displacement, becomes a jump in the inner world, a journey back to the discovery of the intimate and emotional message encrypted in the intervention. Sophisticated technologies completely hidden from view and perfectly integrated in the architecture and in the pavement of the square minimize energy consumption by ensuring respect for principles such as energy conservation and environmental sustainability. The square has become a strong traffic generator, especially in the evening, to enjoy the beauty of Paladino’s work under a new light.

The project of monumental lighting of Cerreto Sannita central square aims to highlight the identity of the places and the beauty of the monuments. A project characterized by an emotional and communicative background, which was founded with the goal of interpreting the values and traditions of the city by strengthening the sense of belonging of the people and offering, at the same time, a further source of tourist attraction to visitors. The lighting pole, designed ad hoc by Filippo Cannata and realized with the participation of the artisan workshops of the place, is a reinterpretation of the old lantern, a gas lamp aesthetically and technologically updated to complement the new with the existing and celebrating the tradition through use of local ceramic as coating of part of the pole. The project, in addition to use light as a tool of communication and local marketing, is attentive to the principle of environmental sustainability: LED light sources and the installed electronic components help minimize power consumption and greatly lengthen maintenance time of the lighting fixtures. In the evening at different times of the year coinciding with the holiday light changes in tone, intensity and color participating in the event and representing the urban environment in a fun way.

In this lighting design project, signed Cannata & Partners, the entrance to the city’s water reservoir, located within the Regional Park of Taburno and Camposauro, becomes a work of art of rare beauty. A huge heart grit cobalt blue opens in the rock making itself visible in the distance between the green woods and the blue sky; inside at night the light, with its slight flare, joins in sync with the slow movement of moon: full moon – minimum illumination; no moon – maximum light. And the two variations in between. The lighting is characterized by a strong desire not to interfere with the surrounding environment while preserving the beauty of the effects and reflections generated by natural light. In accordance with the principle of environmental sustainability have been used LED sources and electronic components that ensure the highest levels of durability, the reduction of power consumption to a minimum in fact produces an enormous expansion of the maintenance time of the lighting fixtures with the consequent elimination of charges and issues related to disposal.

Create and convey pure emotion, this is the simple message inscribed in the lighting design project of the Hortus Conclusus site in the heart of old Benevento. An open-air museum, a remarkable synthesis of nature and art, which wants to be a place of rest, calm and peace, meditation for man struggling with the practical difficulties of daily life and those of his interiority. The lighting, by Cannata & Partners, contributing to the role of urban place making it accessible even at night, and enhancing its suggestiveness. In line with the intentions of the artist, the light helps the visitor to enter in the right psychological dimension to undertake a personal “memory lane” in order to rediscover his past, and understand the message encrypted in the intervention.

The monumental lighting of the Palace of Caserta, the largest royal residence in the world proclaimed World Heritage Site by UNESCO, enhances the park and its artistic beauty. Light signed Cannata & Partners, made of light contrasts and soft caresses, makes alive the characters and their stories animating the marble of a life that has never owned. Seductive trick of light and shadow discover a syntax of solids and voids that is not perceived by day and helps to enhance the tranquility and the emotional charge of the place: the light, as a cultural and expressive tool, enhances the historical and artistic heritage enriching the visitor experience with deep meanings.

A mass suspended in space, a flexible structure created to accommodate and encourage a wide range of activities, a bridge with the city of Marseille and above all a meeting place, a “Center for Dialogue and Exchange in the Mediterranean”. In line with the architectural intentions, intended to create a structure able to integrate into the natural environment, the lighting created by Cannata & Partnerts flows harmoniously between the inside and the outside, taking advantage of the peculiarities of the great body glazed. Respect for the strong sense of integration with the natural environment has driven the design of an “intelligent” light which combines quality and energy efficiency. The lighting design, attentive to the principle of environmental sustainability, is characterized by the use of lighting and electronic components of last generation that guarantee the highest levels of durability ensuring the intensity of light appropriate to the various events and occasions and reducing the power consumption to a minimum. The lighting combines the aesthetic with the functional-scenic aspect, adapting to the many requirements of a useful space of docking and navigation, but also game, party, entertainment, commerce and even fishing.
